Good Habits 101 Continued...

“Motivation is Overvalued. Environment Often Matters More.”

~ James Clear

Motivation is defined as the 'act or an instance of motivating, or providing with a reason to act in a certain way.' (dictionary.com)

Clearly my personal motivation has been running very short as I am now working with a virtual personal trainer and have an accountability partner to keep me on track with my workouts and eating healthier. It is NOT always about motivation or lack thereof.

Making small changes in my environment is helping by serving as reminders to do some movement daily and make better eating choices.

So how do you change your environment to trigger healthier habits? For healthier snacks, put a bowl of fruit on the counter and hide the high fat, unhealthier snacks (or just don’t have them in the house).

For workouts, put your workout stuff on first thing in the morning or put your shoes on first thing to be the trigger for a walk first thing in the morning.

Tape positive quotes and/or affirmations on your mirror that you will see first thing in the morning to inspire you. Fill your work space, kitchen, bedroom with sticky note reminders with encouraging scriptures, quotes, goals and other positive messages to yourself.

How about some strong “I am ….” statements to replace that negative self-talk? Examples include “I am healthy”, “I am beautiful”, “I eat healthy”, or “I am an athlete and I am lean, strong, and healthy”.

As you can see from the examples, it is ALL about the SMALL changes! What small change are you going to make in your environment ? You have got this!!
