"Uncertainty is the most stressful feeling."
(In light of recent events, I am deviating from my original March topic of Caffeine Awareness.)
Dr. Garbor Mate states in his book, "When the Body Says NO", “three factors that universally lead to stress: uncertainty, the lack of information and the loss of control”.
Right now, we are facing a whole new level of “uncertainty” which means our stress levels are even more elevated. The aspect of elevated stress I wanted to remind you of is that stress impacts our immune system by WEAKENING it.
What can you do to help STRENGTHEN your immune system? In addition to getting plenty of rest AND eating nutritionally-dense food, DO YOUR SELF-CARE!
Self-care activates the “calming and digesting” nervous system to help lower our stress levels. Keeping it (our self-care) super simple helps too. Don’t OVERthink it.
- Deep breaths and wiggle your toes!
- Take a 10-15 minute walk outside.
- Play a board game with your kids. Laugh.
- Journal. Read scripture. Pray. Meditate.
- Find something that works for you AND DO IT! Regularly and often!
I promise you … your FUTURE self will thank you!!
Happy self-caring!
Hugs,
Rita 🙂 xo
