Another category of wellness that affects us and plays a part in our overall WHOLE well-being is our emotional wellness.
Emotional Wellness = is the ability to successfully handle life's stresses and adapt to change and difficult times.
When our stress levels remain high over long periods of time, whether we are aware of it or not, our brain and body chemistry changes due to the increased levels of adrenaline and cortisol that are released when we feel stressed.
This can lead to fatigue, irritability, headaches, anxiety or depression, difficulty recovering from exercise, and poor sleep to name a few. For more information, here is an article on the effects of high cortisol on the body.
My self-care challenge this week, my friends, is to work on improving your emotional wellness.
How do you do that?
Find activities to feed your soul, bring you joy, and allow you to slow down and calm your nervous system. Flip the switch from “high alert” to “resting and recharging”.
Watch a funny movie, read a good book, have coffee with a dear friend, journal, read scripture, color, paint, or lay down on the grass and watch the clouds.
Give your mind, body, and heart a break from the daily rigors and find a positive mindset in the simple things that surround you.
Your turn… what feeds your emotional wellness?
I would love to hear from you - text me at 704-564-2055.
Hugs, Rita ❤
