May = Mental Health Awareness Month

May 3rd, 2022

In today’s world we are inundated with all the “perfect” life moments courtesy of social media. We see pictures of our “perfect” selves thanks to all the filters we can use to project a facade of our true selves.

This can lead to insecurity, lack of self-worth, and wear away at our self-confidence because we may feel we are “not as good” as everyone else.

I don’t care what anyone says or writes or posts, it really is okay to not be okay.

It is okay to have a bad day or a bad week or bad life moments. We all have them regardless of who we are.

I want to reassure you that the struggle is very real and there is so much going on in today’s world that lets the lack of control, fear of the unknown, and the uncertainty multiply and threaten to take over our thoughts and actions.

It is ok to reach out for support, help, and advice. It is ok to tell your family, “I just want to spend the afternoon alone doing yard work”... or reading a book or watching a movie or taking a nap.

And please remember, my friend, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

It is okay to not be okay and express it, however, you should not have to stay in the “not okay” place indefinitely.

Mental Health Americas of the Central Carolinas (MHA) is a wonderful organization providing and offering a number of mental health resources. I have been involved with them as an ambassador and story teller for close to 10 years. Some of their helpful links are below:

With all honesty and transparency, I have not been feeling ok these last fews days AND I am taking the time to do more self-care and reach out and talk to friends to get the support I need to move into a better space.

Are you feeling “not okay”?

Reach out. Talk. Do self-care. Nurture Yourself. We are in this together.

Hugs,

Rita ❤
