"Today is one of those days that I am CRABBY with a capital "B" and it's OK..."
Have you recently found yourself yelling at your dog (or cat) or yourself for some very minor infraction?
Thrown a full blown tantrum when you spilled your coffee all over the counter?
Burst into a screaming rage when something didn’t go the way you wanted?
Or maybe you can just relate to the above picture?
If you answered yes to any of the above, you are not alone. (Psst… I answered yes to ALL four!)
My first suggestion is to take a pause, stop moving, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Adding in some toe-wiggling would probably help too!
With each exhale, focus on releasing the tension AND your irritability into the ground away from your body.
This may NOT be your usual irritability. Stress overload, dealing with chronic stress, causes chemical changes in your brain and body (thank you cortisol…#eyeroll) and will cause changes in your moods, sleep patterns, and eating habits.
Changes in any one of these is enough to make someone more irritable so imagine if all three have affected negatively? Yikes!
Have you assessed your stress level lately? Here is a simple stress quiz with personalized follow-up based on your score.
If that seems too overwhelming, here is a quick checklist with 24 signs & symptoms of stress overload. The more signs & symptoms you can check off, the more stress overloaded you most likely are.
My challenge this week, my friend, is to check in with your irritability level. Is it higher than usual? This may be a sign that you are stress overloaded AND need to increase your self-care.
